Women...
I feel Pretty... good now i've had a beer and a bath

at the same time...
Got the colours i like and portray the love and female aspect i required from this brief. Calm and peaceful colours for a women who is happy as larry about having that wonderful boy.

I think the image works better smaller. So i'm going to find a better stencil of a womens face to work with. I'm liking this style tho.
Its back to what i was doing in the first year with the postcards made up of two colours and just type. Only crisper and with better concept. Poster to be looked at from afar and then up close for the detail.
Am i just making up excuses?
Fridays shouldn't suck
I didnt really have a productive day today. Got a big list of stuff to do over this longer weekend. I plan on having some sleep tho. 3 days just aint funny.
Everyone said this one was really nice. I hate that word. It is in no way constructive. However, what was said is to make the type flow with the hair more like the one below.
Not sure about the colours. But i like the experimental work with the type. I did it by accident.
The red uploaded looks better in RGB. I'm gunna play more with the colours later and get the layout sorted. Then on with Bobby D.
Anyway... i did get my screens coated and exposed. I feel uncomfortable down the other road. I keep thinking Roger is going to hurt me. Ha
I'm gunna screen print all Wednesday so i have something new for my portfolio, besides digital vector graphics.
Anyway i've had an update with my IDST brief.
I'd produced these posters. Not amazing. But like i said i want to work on my hand drawn illustration skills.

Colours were also mentioned and how to put it into context. I know exactly how. Just havent got there yet.
Mistakes! I wrote the same line twice only weirdly. No sleep causes this. And of course doing them by hand is also a fucking nightmare, when you have to start over. I prefer the red one, however the blue received more constructive and worthy feedback.

Too illustrative?
Anyway i produced this to day...

Design Update 6
Design Update 5
Catch Up... Design Update 4

messing with layouts of how i could possibly have the posters fuse together by their hair.
However, this is kinda contradictory of what each song is about. Kinda.

Go Font UR SELF
Illustrative Type or Type as Image

An amazing James Brown poster i found on gigposters.com
I love the type and how it creates the face of James Brown. This would answer the brief well; as it does not use any image. The type is positioned, aligned to create the image.

posted this image a while ago on my other blog. Nice fluid type to make up more typographic symbols.
For The Love of Type

i love illustrative type like this. Hand rendered.
On the hugo brief i've avoided using the mac as much as possible. I think the hand craft is dying and i want to avoid contributing to its destruction if i can.

The Color of Love
For some folks the color of love is
Red ... fiery and hot,
For others the color is
Blue ... placid and calm,
For some it's
Yellow... caring but cautious,
For others it's
Orange ... rich and fruitful,
For some the color is
Lavender... gentle and kind,
For others it's
Purple... sacrificing and giving,
For some it's
Green ... with its go, go, go,
For others the color is
White ... pure and undefiled.
But for me the color is
Rainbow ... Red and Blue,
Yellow and Orange,
Lavender and Purple,
Green and White.
The Rainbow painted by God
is a symbol of forever-love,
And as long as there is
sunshine and rain
there will always be Rainbows,
And as long as there are Rainbows
there will always be
forever-love for you.
Red ... fiery and hot,

Chillin like Bob Dylan

i love the psychedelic posters from the 1960's, however Blood on the Tracks is from a different era. I have to reflect the feel, tone of the song. Both are very different songs. maria is singing about been in love; whereas dylan is singing about a lost love and how he has regrets about how things ended.
they reflect different points of views from different sexes. i think i'm gunna use colour and little imagery to answer this brief.

If you see her says hello
"If You See Her, Say Hello" is a song by Bob Dylan released on his 15th studio album Blood on the Tracks in 1975. An alternative version is on The Bootleg Series Volumes 1–3 (Rare & Unreleased) 1961–1991.
The song describes an anonymous lost love, who no longer loves the persona after they had "a falling out". Although the persona clearly feels wounded by the break up: "Our separation, It pierced me to the heart", he appears not to resent the anonymous character, declaring "Oh, whatever makes her happy, I won't stand in the way"
There is also a version in Italian by Francesco De Gregori, called Non Dirle Che Non E' Cosi'
Jeff Buckley covered the song in a live performance on his album Live at Sin-é.
It is mentioned by David Duchovny's character Hank at the end of episode five of the Showtime series Californication.
An interview with Ricky Gervais mentioned the song as a favourite, but it was incorrectly transcribed as "If You See A Sailor".
The Brazilian singer Renato Russo made a cover for this song but due to his homosexual preference changed the title and lyrics to "If you see HIM, say hello".
If you see her, say hello, she might be in Tangier
She left here last early spring, is livin' there, I hear
Say for me that I'm all right though things get kind of slow
She might think that I've forgotten her, don't tell her it isn't so.
We had a falling-out, like lovers often will
And to think of how she left that night, it still brings me a chill
And though our separation, it pierced me to the heart
She still lives inside of me, we've never been apart.
If you get close to her, kiss her once for me
I always have respected her for busting out and gettin' free
Oh, whatever makes her happy, I won't stand in the way
Though the bitter taste still lingers on from the night I tried to make her stay.
I see a lot of people as I make the rounds
And I hear her name here and there as I go from town to town
And I've never gotten used to it, I've just learned to turn it off
Either I'm too sensitive or else I'm gettin' soft.
Sundown, yellow moon, I replay the past
I know every scene by heart, they all went by so fast
If she's passin' back this way, I'm not that hard to find
Tell her she can look me up if she's got the time.

Boy, boy, crazy boy,
Get cool, boy!
Got a rocket in your pocket,
Keep coolly cool, boy!
Don't get hot,
'Cause man, you got
Some high times ahead.
Take it slow and Daddy-O,
You can live it up and die in bed!
Boy, boy, crazy boy!
Stay loose, boy!
Breeze it, buzz it, easy does it.
Turn off the juice, boy!
Go man, go,
But not like a yo-yo schoolboy.
Just play it cool, boy,
Real cool!
Boy, boy, crazy boy,
Get cool, boy!
Got a rocket in your pocket,
Keep coolly cool, boy!
Don't get hot,
'Cause man, you got
Some high times ahead.
Take it slow and Daddy-O,
You can live it up and die in bed!
Boy, boy, crazy boy!
Stay loose, boy!

Turn off the juice, boy!
Go man, go,

Just play it cool, boy,
Real cool!

Maria . . .
(sings)
The most beautiful sound I ever heard:
Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria . . .
All the beautiful sounds of the world in a single word . .
Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria . . .
Maria!
I've just met a girl named Maria,
And suddenly that name
Will never be the same
To me.
Maria!
I've just kissed a girl named Maria,
And suddenly I've found
How wonderful a sound
Can be!
Maria!
Say it loud and there's music playing,
Say it soft and it's almost like praying.
Maria,
I'll never stop saying Maria!
The most beautiful sound I ever heard.
Maria

West Side Story

I Feel Pretty
MARIA
I feel pretty,
Oh, so pretty,
I feel pretty and witty and bright!
And I pity
Any girl who isn't me tonight.
I feel charming,
Oh, so charming
It's alarming how charming I feel!
And so pretty
That I hardly can believe I'm real.
See the pretty girl in that mirror there:
Who can that attractive girl be?
Such a pretty face,
Such a pretty dress,
Such a pretty smile,
Such a pretty me!
I feel stunning
And entrancing,
Feel like running and dancing for joy,
For I'm loved
By a pretty wonderful boy!
GIRLS
Have you met my good friend Maria,
The craziest girl on the block?
You'll know her the minute you see her,
She's the one who is in an advanced state of shock.
She thinks she's in love.
She thinks she's in Spain.
She isn't in love,
She's merely insane.
It must be the heat
Or some rare disease,
Or too much to eat
Or maybe it's fleas.
Keep away from her,
Send for Chino!
This is not the
Maria we know!
Modest and pure,
Polite and refined,
Well-bred and mature
And out of her mind!
MARIA
I feel pretty,
Oh, so pretty
That the city should give me its key.
A committee
Should be organized to honor me.
GIRLS
La la la la . . .
MARIA
I feel dizzy,
I feel sunny,
I feel fizzy and funny and fine,
And so pretty,
Miss America can just resign!
GIRLS
La la la la . . .
MARIA
See the pretty girl in that mirror there:
GIRLS
What mirror where?
MARIA
Who can that attractive girl be?
GIRLS
Which? What? Where? Whom?
MARIA
Such a pretty face,
Such a pretty dress,
Such a pretty smile,
Such a pretty me!
GIRLS
Such a pretty me!
ALL
I feel stunning
And entrancing,
Feel like running and dancing for joy,
For I'm loved
By a pretty wonderful boy!
ISTD - Rationale

I've chosen to work around the lyrics of Bob Dylan's 'Blood on the Tracks' album from 1975 and from Stephen Sodenheim's 'West Side Story' from 1957; when it was first released on Broadway.
For this brief, i want to produce two hand drawn illustrative type solutions. I chose these two songs as for me they are polar opposites. I Feel Pretty is sung by a women who is in love and experiencing the joy of love. This is in stark contrast to Dylan's If you see her, say hello as its sung by a man about a lost love.
I think colour will be an important factor in this brief as this will reflect the tone more than the illustrative type.
