Are you feeling Blue?

This is the first article i chose to work with. It was published in the Guardian and focused on The Sun's decision to no longer support the Labour party, after 12 years. Reading through the article gave me a few points of focus for the week long brief.

1) The polls and where labour stand in the run up to the election

I began focusing on the role of Rupert Murdoch, who has reportedly had dinner at Cameron's house. Murdoch, is the owner of The Sun newspaper published by News International, a subsidiary of News Corp. Murdoch claims he has handing over running of News International to his sun. But could he be the most influencial business man in the world?

The half toning of Rupert Murdoch's face into the tree logo of the conservative party didn't work as well as i'd hoped. I rushed into abit i think rather than exploring different options.
Quick 5minute piss take.
I had a tutorial with my tutor fred and he asked me why i trace and draw when that has nothing to do with my design practice. He gave me a good tip about how i could work so i'm in the process of trying it out. Photocopying and working over the photocopy.

12 point poll lead for the conservatives for the third month running

I like how this image turned out. Not entirely sure how i'd be able to screen print it. It is only 4 colours essentially. Need to research into colour separation for screen print.

Tweaks

I've been tweaking the don't panic poster i did. I've come to realise that the way don't panic winners are selected is pure bullshit. As it doesn't work at all. You can tell who has got their friends to boost their ratings. I don't think any of the top 10 would really catch the eye of Shepard Fairey, except one.

Anyway rant over. I made some changes to my design for submission and for print

The coins are vectored and don't look realistic enough compared to the shell logo. I should use a real photo.

Don't Panic

Final Image is missing something that reflects the message i'm trying to say. I think the money underlaying the shell logo is totally off.

Don't Panic...To Be Continued

The theme for the Don't Panic competition is: Social. This worked out well for me as i'm going down a political/social context lately. Even branching into motivational type things. Here's what i got so far. I'm trying to get back into the knack of using design sheets opposed to working solely on my mac.
I took this photo over the summer for a t-shirt i wanted to print for a competition. I'm going to go back and print it, as soon as my loan comes in. Which hopefully is soon. I also had an idea of expanding on that photo and gathering a collection of homeless people holding my sign for a book.
Just a few rough, quick sketches. I wanted to experiment with vector shading and drew influence from Alex Trochut.

Just a quick idea.
I'm all about drips and want to experiment with the vector shading.

Puddle of oil... I think i might make the oil spell out Afghanistan? or something.

Did you know? Shell oil reported a £13.9 billion profit last year.

Sweet Landing

This is a logo i produced for Sweet Landing bake shop somewhere in DC. They wanted summery colours and something a little different. The cross spoon and whisk is for the sticker which will be used to close the boxes of baked goods.
I didn't do any design sheets for this i solely worked on my mac experimenting with different type. This is a bad way to work and i won't be doing it again. It works but i fucked around for ages trying to get it right. PAPER PLANNING IS ESSENTIAL.

Geek Tee

I redid a different design for threadless. Sadly i missed the deadline by a couple of ours. Sucks.
Its a learning curve and i need to get into the swing of using my diary again or i can sync my calendar to my iphone. Oh Yeah Technologi

I changed the tee so it can be used for a Rinse t-shirt.
