Catch Up... Design Update 4

these are initial ideas i had for my ISTD brief. i'm struggling with this brief. I want to stay away from the mac but my hand rendered type is something to be desired.
i continued to look at the Bob Dylan poster by Milton Glaser as inspiration. My poster will focus on the hair created of type.

messing with layouts of how i could possibly have the posters fuse together by their hair.
However, this is kinda contradictory of what each song is about. Kinda.

Skypey Skype

Major Development.
I've still loads to do tho.

Circling with a few ideas check em out below.

This idea is just using simple equations, on a chalk board to show how skype works. What you get. Its kind of a tangent. So i might leave it. It is a really simple idea tho. Could work as a TV ad - mad scientist develops skype by accident while exploring the possibility of time travel.

Me and Anand explored this idea when doing the o2 brief. I thought it would work really well with the skype brief, as it is a new form of communication and is expected to be the new big invention. Baring that in mind. I went back to my original idea (see first images) and explored them more fully.

Go Font UR SELF

Mike Perry

Illustrative type that works as an image rather than type. Strong colours

Joel Birch

Sarah King

This is an amazing type as image. I think i have an idea what i'm going to do.

Again. This one is more simple and kinda like i did with my postcards in the first year. Albeit at a higher quality

Illustrative Type or Type as Image

An amazing James Brown poster i found on gigposters.com
I love the type and how it creates the face of James Brown. This would answer the brief well; as it does not use any image. The type is positioned, aligned to create the image.

posted this image a while ago on my other blog. Nice fluid type to make up more typographic symbols.

For The Love of Type

i love illustrative type like this. Hand rendered.
On the hugo brief i've avoided using the mac as much as possible. I think the hand craft is dying and i want to avoid contributing to its destruction if i can.

Finals

i'll upload air when i've produced it. I'm using gloss for the air one. Its a really simple design.

Design Update 3

I've been working on these hand drawn illustrations. I'm liking where it is going.

I've produced this in colour by hand and using photoshop.

By hand

By Photoshop

personally i prefer the hand rendered ones. The textures that they pick up when scanned. I'm going to use the bottle illustrations supplied by Hugo to finish these images. I think they would work well as a background. They are striking enough to catch peoples attention.

Design Update 2

I've headed away from the Fantastic Four idea as i thought it was too narrow and i couldn't really get my head into it. I've been looking at vector graphics by alex truchet and others and want to work with vivid colour on the posters i will create.

Heres the new design sheets

I've been experimenting with patterns over the weekend based around 3 of the 4 elements. These are the attempts at finding a pattern i want to work with and develop.

Some are working better than others and some are just down right shit. In the process tho i'm developing my visualisation skills even if its some simple squigglies.

Fire is by far the hardest thing to draw on a3 scale. it was proper pissing me off.
